Dear Parishioners:

By the time you read this article all the celebrations for my 10th anniversary as a priest will be finished. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your participation and good wishes. The planning was excellent on the weekend before my holidays in Mexico. I am sure my mum and my family in general will enjoy the photos and the good memories.

It will be a few weeks until I will have the chance to communicate with you through this column. Returning home after three years I don’t think will give me the time to sit and type, there will be, of course, lots of memories and adventures but you will hear all about them when I come back.

Every time I go back to Mexico is very special for me, and for my family, but I think this time is a bit more special because it will be the first time I go back after my arriving in Australia. Last time I went, all my relatives and friends were curious about my new appointment to work in a new place that from Mexico seems so far away: Australia.

I am sure they are all excited to hear about the life here and of course the way I find this beautiful place I now call home. I bring with me lots of memories and stories to tell. Some of them happy ones, some sad, some exciting, some disappointing but at the end, all of them stories that have helped me to become the person I am today and for that all of them important experiences for my life as a person and as a priest.

You have heard a lot about my family and my country in my homilies and some casual sharing, it is now time for all the Mexicans on the other side of the world to hear stories about the Aussies and the parishioners here in St Monica.

I am planning to go and see our Lady of Guadalupe in her home at the National Basilica in Mexico City, be sure I will pray for all of you, your needs and your dreams, I am very excited about this visit as well.

The Diocese has arranged for the supply priest while I am away, hopefully masses won’t be affected and if there is any emergency please call the office and Susan will try to get in contact with some of the priests who will look after the parish. You are a very good community so I think things will run smoothly as usual.

I have also asked some people to help me with opening and closing the church and the gates for parking. Please be patient if sometimes the church or the gates are not open when you arrive, please help and if you are the last person to go make sure the church and the gates are securely locked.

I think I am giving too many instructions already so I stop here, you will be fine and God will look after our place.

Thank you again for all your good wishes for me and for my family. See you soon!!

Peace in Jesus
